History: John F. Pricegave land in 1880 for the erection of an Evangelical Church, in the east end of Sugar Valley. This church was named Bethel Evangelical Church, but was commonly called Price Church due to its benefactor. Accompanying the church was a small plot reserved for a graveyard. After the Evangelical Association split in 1894, the Price Church remained affiliated with the Evangelical Association. The congregation dwindled over the years, and by 1922 there were only eight members left. It was closed soon thereafter. In 1945 the building was sold to L. H. Hutzelfor $330.00, who used the lumber to build a home. The bell was sold to Trinity Church in Jersey Shore. With the church gone, the Price Cemetery Association was formed, and continues to maintain the cemetery. It is still an active burial plot, but receives few new interments. |
