History:
Capt. Harry Greenwas a resident of Milton. With six companions, he set out on the trail of a band of Indians who had been ravaging the Juniata and West Branch Valleys, stealing cattle, and burning buildings. While encamped in Greene's Gap, in present-day Sugar Valley, he and his associates were murdered by the Indians.Well-known local historian, Col. Henry Shoemaker, erected a monument to commemorate the site in 1916. It is not known whether the massacre victims are buried at the site, but that has been speculated. |
